Heating and Air Conditioning Terms

We know our Georgetown customers like to have as much information as possible. So we have provided a list of some common ac and heating terms.

Condenser: The unit located outside which houses the compressor, fan motor and other electrical controls.

Gas Furnace: Normally located up in the attic or in a closet that uses fuel such as natural gas or liquid propane.

Heat Pump: Complete system that uses all electric to heat and cool your home by using a device called a reversing valve to change the flow of Freon.

Electric Air Handler: Located like the gas furnace in the attic or closet but uses hi voltage to heat home.

R-22 Freon: Type of refrigerant that runs at lower pressures and is being phased out due to the increase of energy efficiency.

R-410a: Also called Prozone or Puron depending on the manufacturer. Runs at higher pressure, and is replacing R-22 for higher efficiency demand and ozone safety. It is not environmentally friendly.
